Chapter: 9

***Milisaria***

King Siefer was to oversee the prisoner's banishment from Milisaria. These occasions were always difficult. The fact that Kylso was a former knight made it worse. Taking away a knighthood was a rare happening. It was reserved for the worst acts of defiance or the failure to honor your fellow warriors. The rules were clear when it came to fighting. No knight was to engage in a fight with another knight, ever. Kylso had gotten caught at it three times. He should have been kicked out of his knighthood long ago, but King Siefer was a forgiving man. He realized that Scyon had been wrong to throw the first punch. He was to be punished for it. However, confronted with the things Kylso had said, King Siefer would have wished to knock some sense into him as well. Removing knighthood was rare, but banishment for a knight had never occurred before. There would be a crowd watching as Kylso was put aboard the ship in bonds. Some of the onlookers would be angry and violent.

Kylso wore an expression of hatred as he was brought from the prison. He had never been stable, and now he did not try to hide his instability. His parents stood at the ship's ramp to say goodbye. They appeared stoic and resigned. Oddly, the crowd was not as large as the king had expected. Kylso had alienated too many people over the years with his constant abusive anger. The prisoner should have been in bonds, but was not. His guards would be reprimanded for their lack of security. Perhaps they felt bad for the former knight.

Their inattention to that detail proved to be their undoing. Kylso lunged toward a bystander, grabbed his knife, and held it to the man's throat. "Do not try to force me to board the ship. I will not hesitate to slit his throat. It does not matter to me who dies as long as I remain free and on Milisaria."

King Siefer stayed calm and gestured for the knights to back off. He wanted no death suffered just to remove Kylso from the planet. If the prisoner escaped, he would be hunted down. There were few places to hide for very long.

Kylso began to back his way toward the edge of the city, the knife still at the man's throat. Villagers moved as if to block him. The king merely shook his head, and they opened a path without question. Once enough space was between Kylso and the knights, he shoved his prisoner into the crowd and ran. King Siefer motioned for the knights to pursue him. He could not hide forever.
